The Groundwater Performance Assessment Project is part of DOE's Groundwater Remediation Project. The project scientists analyze groundwater and geologic data along with other information to determine conditions in the subsurface, assess impacts from waste disposal, and provide monitoring to allow the continued operation of Hanford waste management units. Seismic monitoring is also conducted to quantify the location and nature of seismic events in the Hanford region. The project has successfully conducted monitoring activities across Hanford to provide DOE and its contractors with the data and information necessary to meet these technical needs and regulatory requirements. The project is charged by DOE with the goal of meeting regulatory compliance requirements by planning, maintaining, and reporting groundwater monitoring in accordance with RCRA, CERCLA, TPA agreements, and DOE Orders.
